When Gallo Acoustics discontinued the Nucleus speaker system in order to focus on small micro satellites, many people were disappointed. It was not only an unusual looking speaker set, but a very good sounding set as well. Fast forward to the present, and now we have a new model that is even cooler and better--the Reference III. The unique tweeter design allows for a super wide dispersion (Gallo claims 300 degrees) and there is a switch on the back that offers a boost or cut in the high frequencies. There is a second set of terminals that allow for running the bass speaker with a dedicated amplifier that will allow for even greater bass output. Much like electrostatic speakers, the Reference III speakers operate without a crossover from 125 Hz to 50,000 Hz. The 10" long-throw woofer is specifically designed to integrate both sonically and aesthetically into the chassis of the speaker system. They are available in a black or stainless (pictured) finish. The bases come in black (pictured), maple, and cherry. S.R.P. $2600.
Chances are, you either have a plasma television or know someone who does. Prices have been coming down and quality has been improving. This year Fujitsu--one of the premiere plasma panel manufacturers--has come out with a 55" model. The set measures 54.3" W x 31.9" H x 4.8" D. Wall mount options include: flat mounting, single and double articulating, and flush* mounting as well! The set will accept DVI-D (HDCP), component video (2 inputs), RGB (on DB-15), s-video, and composite video. The monitor utilizes 10-bit video processing and incorporates Fujitsu's award-winning AVM (Advanced Video Movement) digital video signal processor that eliminates motion artifacts, flicker, and improves vertical resolution. And don't forget, Fujitsu offers one of the best warranties in the plasma business--3 years in-home. S.R.P. $12,000.
